ABOUT THE VOICE IN THE NIGHT

When the Albatross is shipwrecked, a man and his fiancée find themselves marooned on a deserted island, devoid of all life except for a strange, invasive fungus...

William Hope Hodgson’s haunting 1907 short story, “The Voice in the Night,” has been reprinted time and time again, and serves as the inspiration for Ishirō Honda’s classic Japanese horror film, Matango!

This work is presented as it was originally created and may contain outdated and offensive cultural depictions.

ABOUT WILLIAM HOPE HODGSON

William Hope Hodgson (1877–1918) was an English author, writing horror, fantastic, and science fiction. A prolific writer, he also worked as a poet and essayist.

One of Hodgson’s perennial themes was the sea, and his life as a sailor lent a realistic touch to his stories. He also achieved renown as a bodybuilder in England. He died, aged 40 in Belgium, during World War I.
